Annual inflation in August at 2.1% due to more expensive fuel
Ljubljana – The annual inflation rate in Slovenia in August stood at 2.1%, mostly due to significantly more expensive petroleum products, while monthly inflation rate was at 0.1%, the Statistics Office reported on Tuesday.
Survey unemployment rate down slightly in July
Ljubljana – The ILO-compatible survey unemployment rate in Slovenia in July reached 4% and was thus 0.2 percentage points lower than in June and 1.3 percentage points lower than in July 2020. The Statistics Office estimates there were about 41,000 persons jobless in July.

Slovenia’s GDP up 16.3% y/y in second quarter
Ljubljana – Slovenia’s GDP increased by 16.3% in year-on-year comparison in the second quarter of the year, the Statistics Office reported on Tuesday. The growth was powered by household spending and gross investment. Foreign trade was up significantly as well.

Jobless total decreases by a fifth in second quarter
Ljubljana – The jobless total in Slovenia stood at 44,000 in the second quarter of the year according to the labour force survey, down 20% compared to the quarter before, the Statistics Office said on Friday. The survey unemployment rate was 1.3 percentage points lower at 4.3%.
Service sector recovering fast
Ljubljana – Revenue from the sales of services in Slovenia was up by 21.8% in June compared to the same month last year, and by 2.6% compared to June 2019, the Statistics Office reported on Friday, an indication that services are recovering fast from the pandemic slump.

Domestic and foreign tourist figures even out in July
Ljubljana – Slovenia’s tourist accommodation providers recorded some 767,500 arrivals in July and 2.3 million overnight stays, show fresh data by the Statistics Office. The figures for overnight stays by domestic and foreign tourists have evened out as the latter total was up by 55% in July year-on-year.
Business sentiment improves in August
Ljubljana – Slovenia’s business sentiment improved again in August after a period of decline. The indicator is now at 6.4 percentage points, up 0.8 points from July and up 12.4 points year-on-year, the Statistics Office reported on Wednesday.
On a monthly level, business sentiment and confidence improved in services (+0.7 points), retail (+0.3 points) and manufacturing (+0.1 points).

Average June pay lower than in May
Ljubljana – The average gross pay in Slovenia in June stood at EUR 1,952, down 2.8% nominally on May and down 3.4% in real terms. Totalling EUR 1,256, the average net pay in June was down 2.4% in nominal terms and down 3% in real terms, the Statistics Office said on Monday.

Consumer confidence worsens further in August
Ljubljana – Consumer confidence in Slovenia deteriorated for the second month in a row in August as the relevant indicator was down by two percentage points compared to July. It was still higher than the long-term average though, by one point. The figure rose by two points year-on-year, the Statistics Office said on Friday.

Demand for new workers growing after spring lockdown
Ljubljana, 12 August – There were more than 20,500 job vacancies in Slovenia in the second quarter of the year, up almost 25% from the first quarter, with demand for workers strongest in hospitality and in culture and entertainment. The country’s vacancy rate thus rose to a quarterly record of 2.6%, the Statistics Office (SURS) said on Thursday.
