Holocaust Tribute | Athens | January 20-30

In its new home at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), the National Library of Greece has organized a series of special events about the Holocaust. Including lectures, a photography exhibition, documentary screenings and more, the tribute will also focus on the plight of Greece's Jews in World War II.

Tosca | Athens | January & February

Acclaimed Greek director Nikos S. Petropoulos has always regarded Giacomo Puccini's "Tosca" as a highly cinematic opera that could be seen as the precursor to the moving picture. In his production for the Greek National Opera, the setting is Rome in World War II, focusing on the element of violence and sadism.

Sound of Music | Athens | January 6

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) has moved its successful Park Your Cinema program - which over the summer saw packed screenings on the Great Lawn - indoors. For the holiday season, the SNFCC opera hall will be showing classic family films from the 1930s, 40s and 50s, as well as vintage Walt Disney cartoons.

Gumbo Ya Ya & Shugahspank | Athens | January 5

Gumbo Ya Ya - a New Orleans swing band formed six years ago by American pianist and transplant to Greece John Higgins - has teamed up with jazzy, snazzy vocalist Shugahspank for a show at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) on Friday, January 5. Held at the Lighthouse venue, the show starts at 9 p.m. and admission is free of charge.

SNFCC Celebrations | Athens | To January 31

The Christmas lights are on at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, where the festive atmosphere is complemented with performances by the Greek National Opera Children's Choir and the transformation of the Canal into an ice-skating rink. Weather permitting, the rink will be open to the public every day until January 31 between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. and is free of charge.

La Boheme | Athens | To January 5

Due to popular appeal, the Greek National Opera is reviving acclaimed British director Graham Vick's production of Puccini's all-time classic "La Boheme." The production, which was first staged in 2007, commissioned by the GNO's artistic director at the time, Stefanos Lazaridis, transports the story of four ambitious young artists and the ill-fated romance of Rodolfo and Mimi from 19th century
