Greek electronic music pioneer Konstantinos Bhta will recite poems by the late poet Yannis Ritsos on the alternative stage of the Greek National Opera, as he shares his musical compositions with the public. Bhta performs a musical interpretation of Ritsos' poems and establishes a dialogue between the sounds and the words read, pushing the barriers of communication to another level.

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in southern Athens will be ringing in the New Year in tremendous style with a spectacular fireworks show and dancing fountains at the Canal. British DJ, radio show host, and founder/managing director of Acid Jazz Records will also be spinning the decks in a big outdoor party with an intro/outro set by the trumpet-jamming Johny Matto at the Agora.

Ice Skating | Athens | To February 2

The floating ice rink at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center is open as part of the venue's holiday program. The rink has been set up at the start of the Canal, offering fans of the Christmasiest of sports the opportunity to enjoy a fantastic "inside view" of the majestic Dancing Fountains. The rink will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Metro as well as antiquities

There is absolutely no doubt that Thessaloniki, Greece's second-largest city, needs a metro system to serve its commuters. 

There is no argument that could convince us we can afford to waste more time - or money for that matter.

Too many projects in Greece would have been shelved or put on the back burner if skeptics had their way every single time.

La Sonnambula | Athens | To October 29

The Greek National Opera inaugurates its 2019-20 season with Vincenzo Bellini's "La Sonnambula," in a grand co-production with the Vienna State Opera and the Royal Opera House. Directed by Marco Arturo Marelli, who sets the action in a sanatorium, the production is conducted by Philippe Auguin, with Agathangelos Georgakatos leading the chorus, and costumes designed by Dagmar Niefind.
