Wins for AEK and PAOK, as the Greens stumble again

AEK and PAOK continued with victories at the top two spots of the Super League table over the weekend, but Panathinaikos dropped two points against bottom team Kifissia at home.

AEK faced sixth-placed Lamia away and won 3-1 on Saturday, courtesy of goals by Domagoj Vida, Niclas Eliasson and Steven Zuber. Sidcley Ferreira scored Lamia's consolation.

Following a two-month security ban on supporters at Super League 1 (SL1) matches, the nation's top division for soccer, gates are poised to reopen, with optimism that the new regulations against sports-related violence will instill order. 

Derby turns green, while PAOK remains on top

PAOK left it late at Peristeri but beat Atromitos, while the biggest win of this round in the Super League belonged to Panathinaikos that downed Olympiakos in the Derby of Eternal Rivals on Sunday.

The Greens, just a few days after eliminating the Reds in the Cup, defeated Olympiakos 2-0 at the Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium in Turkish manager Fatih Terim's first derby win in Greece.

PAOK leads Super League table downing the Greens

PAOK beat Panathinaikos on Sunday and is now alone on top of the Super League table, while the Greens have slumped to third after AEK's win over OFI.

The top-of-the-table clash in Thessaloniki had PAOK win 2-1 through a pair of Kiril Despodov goals. Greece captain Tasos Bakasetas had temporarily equalized for his first goal in the green jersey.

Seeking a bonus to his storied career as a player and coach in Turkey, Fatih Terim is facing his next challenge in neighboring Greece.

The restless 70-year-old took charge of Panathinaikos at the new year and his team next plays PAOK in Thessaloniki on Sunday. The two teams currently top the Super League with 44 points from 19 matches.

UEFA provides evidence about suspect soccer games

UEFA, European soccer's governing body, has sent a total of 23 files with evidence of dozens of suspect soccer matches in Greece to the Parliament's Committee on Cultural Affairs and the judiciary. 

State broadcaster ERT said the committee's chairman informed members on Wednesday about the existence of the files.
