With 20 votes in favour and 4 against, the Plenum of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) re-elected Ivan Geshev as Prosecutor General of the Republic of Bulgaria, after President Rumen Radev rejected his candidacy on 7 November.

The plenum of Bulgaria's Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) will hold a meeting on 14 November to vote again on the appointment of Ivan Geshev as chief prosecutor after President Rumen Radev refused to approve the decision and returned it to the SJC, said the SJC' press centre.

Bulgarian President Rumen Radev has returned the proposal to appoint Ivan Geshev as Prosecutor General back to the Supreme Judicial Council, BNR reported.

Bulgarian President Rumen Radev on Thursday refused to sign the decree appointing Ivan Geshev as the next Prosecutor General after Sotir Tsatsarov's mandate ends in January 2020.

The Prosecutor's Office requested the Inspectorate of the Supreme Judicial Council to check and sanction Judge Andon Mitalov from the Special Criminal Court, BNR reported.

Dissatisfied with the election of Ivan Geshev as the new Chief Prosecutor, representatives of the civilian ''Boets'' movement gathered today before the presidency, demanding that the head of state not sign the decree appointing Sotir Tsatsarov's successor to the post.

The Supreme Judicial Council will send its decision on the election of a new chief prosecutor to President Rumen Radev, who must confirm the candidacy with a decree.

With 20 votes in favor and 4 against, Ivan Geshev was approved as the new Attorney General by the Plenum of the Supreme Judicial Council.

The Supreme Judicial Council approved the nomination of Ivan Geshev as the next Attorney General. Twenty members of the Supreme Judicial Council voted in favour, four were against.

After the vote, Ivan Geshev was brief in his speech and thanked those who voted for him.

With 24 votes in favour, the SJC proposes to the President to issue a decree appointing Ivan Geshev.
