Israel downs drone from Syria over occupied Golan: Army
Israel downed a drone over the occupied Golan Heights on Aug. 31, the army said, amid mounting tension on the U.N.-patrolled armistice line with Syria on the strategic plateau.
Air defences "successfully intercepted an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that breached Israel airspace above the border with Syria," an army statement said.

Syria troops retake most of key Damascus suburb: NGO
Syrian government forces have retaken most of a key Damascus suburb they have been fighting for months to recapture from rebel forces, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Thursday.
Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman said the army had "control over most of Mleiha, though there are still some clashes".

First UN aid convoy enters Syria from Turkey
A first convoy of humanitarian aid crossed into Syria from Turkey on July 24, under a new U.N.-authorized plan to send relief without Damascus' approval.
"Nine trucks crossed at Bab al-Salam into Syria this morning," said Amanda Pitt of the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

All the toxic chemicals removed from Syria under a deal with the Syrian government to destroy its chemical weapons stockpile have been delivered to destruction facilities outside the country, the global chemical weapons watchdog said on Thursday.
UN Security Council authorizes cross-border aid access in Syria
The U.N. Security Council on July 14 authorized humanitarian access without Syrian government consent at four border crossings into rebel-held areas from Turkey, Iraq and Jordan, although Syria has warned it deems such deliveries an attack.
Turkey unsatisfied with process of elimination of Syrian chemical weapons
The Turkish Foreign Ministry has said it is not fully satisfied with the process of elimination of the Syrian chemical weapons arsenal in a written statement, claiming the Syrian government has yet to destroy all of its facilities.
Turkey will continue to follow the developments with regard to the elimination of chemical weapons in Syria, the ministry said on June 27.

EU sanctions 12 Syrian ministers for rights abuses
The European Union says it is placing sanctions on 12 ministers of the Syrian government because of their responsibility "for serious human rights violations."
The EU said Monday they will be banned from traveling to the 28-nation bloc and will see any assets held there frozen.
