Suspended sentence for landlord who spied on tenant with camera

A Thessaloniki court has handed a landlord a three-year suspended sentence for secretly recording a female tenant using a hidden camera in her apartment.

The case came to light in November 2019, when the then 18-year-old student filed a complaint.

Although the apartment was intended for short-term rental, the landlord had agreed to rent it to her for a year.

Thessaloniki court oversees investigation into assault against LGBT individuals

The nine adults out of 21 arrested for attacking two transgender individuals late on Saturday were released after being presented before the first instance court in the northern port city of Thessaloniki on Monday. 

The Thessaloniki court postponed the trial due to the absence of witnesses.

Court jails man for 19 years for rape of niece

A Thessaloniki court has sentenced a 53-year-old man to a total of 19 years in prison after convicting him of the sexual abuse and rape of his underage niece.

The court found that the crimes were committed in 2016 and 2021, when the victim was 11 and 16 years old, respectively.

The case ended up in court when the girl revealed to her mother what had happened to her.

47-year old woman sentenced to eight years over phone scams

A 47-year-old woman was sentenced to eight years in prison by a Thessaloniki court on Monday, for her involvement in a network scamming people via telephone.

The criminal network mainly targeted elderly women, telling them that their close relatives had been involved in car accidents, and that they would need to pay large sums of money for supposed surgeries and other medical costs.

Suspended sentence for self-proclaimed ‘national prosecutor’ in Thessaloniki

A 59-year-old man impersonating judicial and military authorities was handed 10 months suspended jail sentence in Thessaloniki on Thursday.

The man presented himself on social media as "national prosecutor" and a career military man with hunting rifles at his possession which he would use to hurt people.

Evros: Arson suspects released

The first four of 13 migrants who are being prosecuted for attempted arson in Evros, northeastern Greece, despite being targeted by a local vigilante were released without restrictions on Saturday by a Thessaloniki court. 

The remaining nine are expected to enter a plea on Monday.

Thessaloniki rapper handed eight-year sentence over sexual abuse of 16-year-old

A Thessaloniki court handed an eight-year prison sentence to a 27-year-old rapper for the sexual abuse of a 16-year-old girl he had met on social media.

He was found guilty on the charge of raping a minor but was acquitted from an illegal imprisonment charge. The man was returned to prison following the ruling.
