Seven children test positive for strep A infection

Seven children from the same northern city as a boy who died after contracting strep A have tested positive for the infection, according to the president of the public hospital staff union POEDIN.

A prosecutor has already ordered an inquiry into the death of the 7-year-old boy from Naoussa, which occurred in a Thessaloniki hospital.

ICU head fears third Covid wave

The head of intensive care units at a large Thessaloniki hospital says the system is under intense pressure from the rising number of coronavirus cases and that he fears a third wave of the pandemic  early next year.

"The situation is desperate, the ICUs are full," Nikos Kapravelos, head of the ICUs at the Papanikolaou hospital, told Skai TV Sunday.

Kilkis crash victim dies

A 30-year-old woman who crashed her car last week in Kilkis, northern Greece, has died, authorities said.

The woman died on Monday afternoon after undergoing multiple surgeries at a Thessaloniki hospital.

Her daughter, 9, who was in the car, is in intensive care at the same hospital.

Man arrested for hurting Olympiakos coach, who got released from hospital

A 27-year-old man was arrested late on Sunday accused of hurling the till roll that struck Olympiakos manager Oscar Garcia on Sunday at PAOK's Toumba Stadium in Thessaloniki that forced the referee not to start the game between the two teams. The Spanish coach left hospital on Monday.

Chalkidiki: Blood bath by the beach

A huge fued at a beach bar at Potidea, Chalkidiki, northern Greece, resulted in a tragedy. During an argument a young Georgian national, aged 29, open-fired against a group of Greeks – killing one and injuring three. Following the shooting the gunman disappeared and a huge manhunt is underway.
