MHP leader criticizes opposition lawmaker for insulting family of martyr

Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chair Devlet Bahçeli has criticized İYİ (Good) Party lawmaker Lütfü Türkkan for swearing at a protestor in the eastern province of Bingöl.

"To swear at the sister of a martyr is indecent, dishonest, and the language of the enemy," Bahçeli said on Nov. 9 at his party's parliamentary group meeting, without naming Türkkan.

Parliament to return from recess this week

Turkey's parliament is set to return from a two-and-a-half-month recess this week with a heavy agenda awaiting lawmakers, including the Paris climate deal.

Lawmakers will convene on Oct. 1 following the summer recess in a special session. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is expected to address parliament at the start of the new legislative term.

Turkey aims to establish and maintain peace in Afghanistan through its recent efforts and initiatives, said Turkey's parliament speaker on July 22. 

Mustafa Şentop and Mir Rahman Rahmani, the speaker of Afghanistan's House of the People, had a phone conversation on the occasion of the Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha, according to a statement by Turkey's Parliament Speaker's Office.
