Turkish Airlines mega-operation to bring nationals home

Ahead of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, Turkey's national flag carrier is mounting a massive nine-day operation to bring back Turkish nationals stranded by coronavirus transportation shutdowns.

On April 20-28, Turkish Airlines will operate 195 flights to bring home nearly 25,000 citizens back home from 59 countries as passenger flights were suspended to stem the virus' spread.

Agitators detained after Thessaloniki stunts

Nineteen members of anti-establishment groups faced a prosecutor in Thessaloniki on Friday on charges of disturbing the peace in connection with two raids in the northern port city on Thursday - one on the grounds of the Ataturk Museum, which are shared by the Turkish Consulate, and the second at the check-in desk of Turkish Airlines inside the city's international airport.

Turkish Airlines sees record 30.3 million passengers in first half of 2017

The number of passengers Turkish Airlines carried in the first half of the year has hit 30.3 million people -- the highest ever, according to a statement released by the airline on July 11.        

The national flag carrier said this year's number of customers in June rose by 13.5 percent, reaching 5.7 million, compared with the same period in 2016.
