Current and future operations across Turkey's southern borders are necessary for the country's national security, the Turkish National Security Council said on May 26.

After months of heightened tension with Athens and Nicosia, the Turkish National Security Council insisted Thursday that it favors diplomacy and dialogue to resolve issues with the two countries in the wider region. 

Ankara issued new warnings against Greece and Cyprus over the latter's planned drilling activity for gas in the Eastern Mediterranean, according to a statement issued by the Turkish National Security Council which met on Thursday under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The U.N. Secretary-General’s Special Adviser on Cyprus, Espen Barth Eide, is working on a formula for the sharing of income from the island’s natural resources, a Turkish diplomat has told the Hürriyet Daily News, referring to a recent meeting between Eide and Turkish politicians in Ankara on Oct. 28.
