Turkish swimmers Polat Uzer Turnalı and Nida Eliz Üstündağ were the winners of the 33rd Samsung Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swimming Race in Istanbul on Aug. 22.

The unique open water swimming race is organized by the Turkish Olympic Committee between the Turkish metropolis' European and Asian parts since 1989.

Turkish wrestler Kerem Kamal on March 20 bagged the ticket for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

The Turkish Olympic Committee (TMOK) said on Twitter that Kamal clinched his Tokyo quota, beating Hungarian opponent Erik Torba 5-4 in the Greco-Roman 60kg semifinal in the European Olympic Qualifier.

Turkey's women's national rhythmic gymnastics team won the 2020 European title on Nov. 28, the team's first-ever medal in the competition.

"Historic! Turkey win their first-ever medal at a European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships after defeating Ukraine to the 3 hoops, 2 pairs of clubs gold!," Turkish Olympic Committee tweeted.

A swimmer who attended the Samsung Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swim passed away after falling ill, Turkish Olympic Committee announced on July 23.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has sanctioned three athletes, including Turkish boxer Adem Kılıççı and two Russian athletes,  for failing anti-doping tests, saying on Feb. 1 the athletes had been disqualified from the 2012 London Olympics.
