The European Court of Human Rights, ECHR in Strasbourg ruled on Tuesday that Turkey violated the rights of Hidayet Karaca, who was an executive at a major media group executive affiliated with exiled cleric Fethullah Gulen, for unfairly keeping him in detention for too long before his trial.

The Turkish presidency on Oct. 20 submitted a motion to parliament to extend the state's authority to launch cross-border military operations in northern Iraq and Syria for one more year.

Turkish police and security forces have so far detained 177 soldiers in nationwide operations to arrest alleged members of Fethullah Gulen's network, which Ankara accuse of orchestrating a failed coup attempt in 2016.

Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Turkish authorities on Friday evacuated hundreds of migrants from Turkey's land border with Greece. 

The migrants were among an estimated 10,000 that had gathered at the border hoping to cross into Greece and Europe after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's government had said last month it would not prevent them from leaving.

The United Nations, European Union and NATO have all remained silent as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's government coordinates the largest mass movement of migrants to date to Greece's borders.

The Turkish parliament on Oct. 8 ratified a motion, extending the state's authority, to launch cross-border military operations in northern Iraq and Syria for another year. 
The motion came ahead of Turkey's planned safe zone operation in northern Syria.
