Poverty threshold at 34,000 Turkish Liras

The labor union Türk-İş has calculated that the poverty threshold of a family of four increased from 33,752 Turkish Liras in May to 33,789 ($1,298) liras in June.

The poverty threshold depicts the monthly amount of necessary and basic expenditure of a family of four, including food, housing, utilities, transport, education and health.

Services inflation rises 3 percent in May

The services producer price index (S-PPI) has increased by 2.99 percent in May from the previous month with the monthly increase in the index easing from 3.9 percent in April, data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) have shown.

The index rose by 28.6 percent from the end of 2022, while the year-on-year increase slowed from 71.8 percent in April to 65.47 percent in May.

Wheat production estimate for 2023 revised upwards

The National Grain Council (UHT) has revised its wheat production estimate for 2023 from a previous 20.75 million tons to 21.5 million tons amid better-than-expected precipitation.

After a dry winter, precipitation was strong in many regions in the months of March, April and May, the council said in a report.

Türkiye breaks daily export record

Türkiye's exports have hit $2.12 billion on June 23, marking an highest figure on record on a daily basis, Trade Minister Ömer Bolat said.

The daily record export revenue, achieved despite the slowdown in global economy and trade, proved the Turkish exporters' resilience and dynamism, commented Bolat on Twitter.

Exports climb to $22 billion in May

Türkiye's exports rose 14.4 percent from a year ago to $21.7 billion in May, after plunging 17 percent annually in the previous month, data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) have shown.

Imports, which declined nearly 5 percent in April, increased by 15.5 percent last month to stand at $34.2 billion.

Confidence in economy fell in June

 

The economic confidence index declined by 2.5 percent in June from May after rising in the previous two months.

The index was 101.1 in June, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) said on June 23.

Any figure above the 100 mark indicates an optimistic outlook regarding the general economic situation.

Cap on rent hike to be extended, says justice minister

The government is considering extending a 25 percent cap on rent hikes, Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç has said.

"Works [on the cap] are ongoing. We are hoping to finalize the respective regulations by July 1," Tunç told reporters following the ruling Justice and Development Party's (AKP) central decision and executive board meeting.
