Iranians are expected to visit Türkiye the most during Nevruz celebrations, taking benefit of their two-week national holiday, sector representatives have said.

Iranian tourists are preparing to spend the Nevruz period between March 21 and April 1 in Türkiye. The initial rush of tourists will arrive from the Kapıköy border gate in the eastern province of Van on March 17.

Two of the world's most important tourism trade shows have taken place back to back, with ITB Berlin in March and EMITT Istanbul this month bringing together international tourism stakeholders.

Turkish hoteliers are hopeful that the country may continue to attract visitors from Europe in the coming months as the energy crisis there could lure people to spend their winters in warmer destinations.

This could be the busiest winter season in the past three years, according to people from the industry.

Nearly 1 million Turkish people went on holiday during a 10-day public holiday, which started late on Aug. 25 and ended on Sept. 3, creating more than 1 billion Turkish Liras ($292 million) of tourism revenue, according to tourism players. 

Hotel occupancy rates hit 100 percent in many tourism resorts. 

Turkey's embattled tourism sector is pleased with the extension of a public holiday for the upcoming Eid al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice) to 10 days, during which around 1 million people travel and create 1 billion Turkish Liras in additional revenue for the sector.
