European court backs Imvros property claim

 Greek woman wins case after her land was registered as belonging to Turkey

The European Court of Human Rights ruled in favor Tuesday of a Greek woman who made a claim for property she inherited from her father on the island of Imvros, which has been part of Turkey since 1923, but which Turkish authorities said belonged to the country?s treasury.

Former Romanian Mayor Jailed For Land Swindle

The Court of Appeal in Bucharest on Friday jailed Cristian Poteras, the former mayor of the city's District 6, for eight years without parole.

Poteras was found guilty of abuse of office in a case related to illegal real estate transactions in the capital involving land seized by Romania's former Communist regime.

Plovdiv Appellate Court Upholds Detention of Imam Accused of Preaching Radical Islam

The Plovdiv Appellate Court upheld on Thursday the detention of the imam Ahmed Musa, who has been accused of preaching radical Islam in Bulgaria.

The court justified its decision, describing Musa as potentially dangerous and likely to go into hiding in case he is released.
