U.S. President-elect Joe Biden has sent a letter to Volkan Bozkır, the President of the United Nations General Assembly, Bozkır announced on his Twitter account on Jan. 4.

"We look forward to working with you and the U.N. General Assembly on addressing the range of issues and opportunities," Biden said in the letter.

The Turkish ambassador is the only candidate for the U.N. General Assembly Presidency and is expected to be elected in June, said Turkey's Foreign Ministry on May 16.  

The United States has requested a closed-door U.N. Security Council meeting for Feb. 6 at which President Donald Trump's son-in-law and advisor, Jared Kushner, is to present the administration's new Mideast plan which is opposed by the Palestinian leadership, diplomats said.
