UNMIK will continue in Kosovo, say UN officials

Guterres: UN mission needs to stay in Kosovo
ST PETERSBURG - The UN's position is clear - the UN Mission in Kosovo needs to stay there, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said at a meeting with Serbia's Acting PM and FM Ivica Dacic in St Petersburg on Friday.
Dacic particularly stressed that a continued, status-neutral UN Mission in Kosovo-Metohija under UN SC Resolution 1244 was very significant for Serbia.

Tanin: Only UN SC can abolish UNMIK
PRISTINA - Only the UN Security Council can make decisions about the mandate of the UN Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), UNMIK head Zahir Tanin has said following media reports about a request by the Kosovo foreign ministry to close the mission.
Tanin said this at Wednesday's closed-door meeting with the foreign affairs committee of the Kosovo assembly, Kosova Sot reported.
