Ukraine's president says tons of grain from his country will arrive in the coming weeks in Somalia, where famine approaches and the global crises of food security and climate change put millions at risk.

Umm Khaled hardly leaves the tent where she lives in northwest Syria, and she says she doesn't pay attention to the news. But she knows one reason why it is getting harder and harder to feed herself and her children: Ukraine.

Turkey's Cilvegözü border gate is the best option for the international community for delivering aid to Syrians at the moment, but more gates are required for assistance, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield has said during a visit to Turkey.

The European Union will more than double emergency aid to Greece in order to improve living conditions for refugees and migrants who have been stranded in the country for months. 

Some 115 million euros ($129 million) in emergency support is being provided by the EU, in addition to 83 million euros earlier this year, the European Commission said on Sept. 10. 

The United Nations said May 19 that some 1,850 people had been killed and more than 500,000 displaced as a result of the conflict raging in Yemen since late March.

As of May 15, 1,849 people had been killed and 7,394 had been injured, the U.N. humanitarian agency said citing numbers from Yemen health facilities.
