Eight Greek universities make latest QS global university ranking
Eight Greek universities have made it into the latest QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) global university ranking, with the National Technical University of Athens (or Athens Polytechnic) top among them, in 347th place.
Mobile health units reach most remote corners of the country
The Primary Healthcare - Mobile Medical Units program for remote islands and areas throughout Greece has undoubtedly been a success story. The program is run by the University of Athens in collaboration with Health Units SA and implemented by the NGO Renaissance and Progress and with the exclusive donation of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
Chariton Stavropoulos appointed new BoD head of National Opera
Greece's Culture Ministry appointed Chariton Stavropoulos as the new President of the Board of Directors of the National Opera.
Stavropoulos replaces Venia Papathanasopoulou, who resigned for personal reasons. He will remain in place until the term of the current board expires.
Bishops do not take a religious oath
A quarter of a century ago, in June 1998, the sixth section of the Council of State was examining a seemingly paradoxical case: The Theological School of the University of Athens was refusing to award a degree to one of its graduates because he refused to take the established religious oath.

Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou affirmed the enduring significance of the Treaty of Lausanne on its 100th anniversary during the opening of an international conference organized by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) and the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP) on Monday.
Sakellaropoulou to open conference on Lausanne Treaty centenary
A two-day international conference commemorating the centenary of the Lausanne Treaty, a historic peace agreement that defined the modern borders of Greece and Turkey, will be inaugurated by Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou on Monday. The conference, titled "100 Years since the Treaty of Lausanne: Looking Back, Looking Ahead," will commence at 10 a.m.
The unknown inhabitants of archaeological sites
A team of 48 scientists from seven universities and research institutions have begun identifying and recording the many different species of plants and animals that have taken refuge in archaeological sites such as Delos (photo), the Ancient Agora in Athens, Epidaurus and Acrocorinth. Thanks to their special protection conditions, the ruins provide shelter to a multitude of life forms.
