‘Shocked’ by overcrowding on Epiphany, says health expert

Manolis Dermitzakis, professor of genetics at the University of Geneva, said on Thursday he was "shocked" by the crowding he saw in the streets and the images of some faithful receiving Communion from the same spoon on Wednesday, when the Orthodox Church celebrates the feast of the Epiphany.

Stanford Club to organize webinar on Covid-19 vaccine

The Stanford Club of Greece is organizing a webinar entitled "Covid-19 Vaccines - Safety, Effectiveness, Distribution, and the next phase of the pandemic." The event will be live streamed via Zoom on Tuesday, December 15, at 7 p.m.

Participants will discuss the differences between the available vaccines, safety concerns, optimal vaccination strategies and future prospects.

Covid vaccine could be rolled out by year-end, gov’t spokesman says

Covid-19 vaccines could be made available to Greek citizens before the end of the year, government spokesman Stelios Petsas said Wednesday.

Speaking on Mega TV, Petsas said that the government's vaccination program is anticipated to be completed by late June next year.

He said the government will launch a nationwide campaign to fight misconceptions about the vaccine.

Roman sarcophagus of Hercules returns home to Turkey

The Roman sarcophagus of Hercules, which was smuggled abroad some 50 years ago, has finally been returned to Turkey from Switzerland. 

The sarcophagus, which was found during illegal excavations in the ancient city of Perge in the southern province of Antalya, was delivered to Culture and Tourism Ministry officials in Geneva on Sept. 13.
