US recognise Cyprus’s right to drill in EEZ

A US State Department spokesperson told that the US government backed the right of the Republic of Cyprus to drill in the Cypriot Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) for the exploration of natural gas and oil. Speaking to Michalis Ignatiou of and, the official said the US discouraged actions that led to an escalation of tensions in the region.

US set to approve $4 bln Patriot missile sale to Romania

The US State Department said on July 11 it is ready to approve the sale of Patriot air defense systems to Romania, a $3.9 billion deal likely to infuriate Russia.

"The State Department has made a determination approving a possible foreign military sale to Romania for Patriot air defense systems, related support and equipment," the State Department said.

Montenegro Set to Become NATO's Newest Member

Montenegrin Prime Minister Dusko Markovic is to officially hand over the accession document at a ceremony on Monday in Washington, after which the tiny Adriatic country will become the 29th NATO member.

The accession process, which lasted almost seven years, will end on Wednesday when Montenegro's flag is to be hoisted for the first time at NATO headquarters in Brussels.
