The opposition Vetevendosje party hailed its victory in Sunday's parliamentary election in Kosovo after more than 80 per cent of the voters were counted, ousting the once dominant Democratic Party of Kosovo, PDK, which came in third place after the Democratic League of Kosovo, LDK.

Ramush Haradinaj's government approved the platform in April, which includes a proposal for President Hashim Thaci to lead the EU-led dialogue with Serbia.

The Mayor of Pristina, Shpend Ahmeti, on Wednesday became the new leader of the Social Democratic Party, PSD, which he and a number of other MPs joined after leaving the main opposition Vetevendosje party.
