Amid escalating geopolitical tensions, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has issued a stark warning, emphasizing the imperative for heightened war readiness in the face of prevailing uncertainties.

He was later rescued by members of the South Korean Coast Guard and Navy, the US Air Force said.
The American jet crashed after taking off from the Kunsan Air military base in Gunsan, 178 kilometers south of Seoul, reports Yonhap News Agency.

A military spy satellite launched by North Korea earlier in the day crashed into the Yellow Sea owing to an engine problem and it plans to carry out its second launch "as soon as possible," reported Yonhap News Agency.

In an apparent protest over a regular South Korea-US combined military exercise to begin this week, North Korea fired two "strategic cruise missiles" from a submarine in waters off its east coast over the weekend, state media said on Monday, reported Yonhap News Agency.

North Korea fired two cruise missiles Wednesday, Seoul's defence ministry said, ending a month-long lull in Pyongyang's record-breaking spate of weapons tests this year.

"Early this morning, we detected that North Korea fired two cruise missiles into the West Sea from Onchon, South Pyongan province," a ministry official told AFP.

The South Korean government has stated that no unusual activity has been observed in North Korea after unconfirmed reports that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is in critical condition after heart surgery.

Senior trade officials from South Korea and Bulgaria held talks on how to promote closer cooperation on economic and energy matters, officials said Frida, reports Yonhap News Agency. 

It was the first time in seven years that the two nations had held such talks, South Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said.

The meeting, which would have marked the first face-to-face encounter between a sitting U.S. president and a North Korean leader, was set for June 12 in Singapore.

A senior North Korean diplomat left for Finland on Sunday for talks with former U.S. and South Korean officials, Yonhap News Agency reported, amid a series of diplomatic encounters ahead of a possible U.S.-North Korean summit, Reuters reported.
