Three opposition leaders meet to discuss return to parliamentary system

The leaders of three opposition parties have held an announced meeting to discuss the future composition of the Nation Alliance, as well as ongoing preparations over the main pillars of the road map for the return of the parliamentary system once they come to power in the next elections.

Ex-opposition party head sentenced to three years

A former co-chair of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HPD) was sentenced to three-and-half years in prison on March 22 for insulting the Turkish president.

Selahattin Demirtaş, who attended the hearing at Istanbul's Bakırköy 46th Criminal Court of First Instance via video link, incurred the sentence for publicly insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

We are rivals with all parties, opposition leader says

The establishment of new political parties is beneficial for Turkey and the voters, the leader of oppositional İYİ (Good) Party leader Meral Akşener has said.

"It will increase competition during elections. We are rivals with both two parties and also [main opposition Republican People's Party] the CHP and the AKP," Akşener told a group of journalists on Jan. 22.

MHP slams establishment of new political parties

The Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli on Dec. 17 slammed the search for establishing new political parties in Turkey, dubbing the moves as a "conspiration."

In a written statement, Bahçeli said "the complicated and dirty actions" of those who want to "sabotage" the politics have accelerated and have become widespread recently.
