Minister says head of UKC Ljubljana hospital should step down

Ljubljana – The management of the UKC Ljubljana medical centre no longer enjoys the support of the Health Ministry, Minister Danijel Bešič Loredan told the press on Tuesday. He said Jože Golobič, director general of Slovenia’s main hospital, should resign immediately and take responsibility for poor business results and numerous missed deadlines.

Fresh data on healthcare waiting times expected in a month

Ljubljana – For the past two months the Health Ministry has been analysing health care services in 2020 and 2021. Long waiting times have been confirmed as the bane of Slovenia’s healthcare with Minister Danijel Bešič Loredan warning about many errors in the IT system. They now aim to obtain up-to-date data in a month.

Bill passed to reduce wait times in healthcare

Ljubljana – The National Assembly has passed an emergency bill designed to tackle long wait times for health services by securing more money and prepare the system for a more sweeping reform that is to follow. The bill exposed a fault-line between the Left and the rest of the ruling coalition as the former is worried the law could undermine public healthcare.

Supervisors in nine hospitals replaced due to poor financial results

Ljubljana – The government has replaced members of the supervisory boards of nine hospitals due to the institutions’ poor financial performance and will carry out a special audit to see how they continue to post losses despite receiving hundreds of millions of euros in extra funding last year.
