Ljubljana – The government decided to restrict or prohibit movement in Ljubljana, the lakeside resort of Bled and around the Brdo pri Kranju conference centre on Tuesday and Wednesday, citing a high probability of severe violations of public order and peace. This comes as new mass protests have been announced and ahead of the EU-Western Balkans summit.

Ljubljana – Interior Minister Aleš Hojs told commercial broadcaster POP TV on Sunday that the possibility of an early election was completely justified. The ruling Democrats (SDS) are discussing this possibility a lot, he said, adding that going to the polls a few months earlier would make no difference as the government was practically at the end of its term.

Ljubljana – Slovenian Police Commissioner Anton Olaj has rejected allegations that the police is politicised. The situation is considerably better than one can gather from media reports, he said in an interview with the the newspaper Večer run on Saturday.

Ljubljana – A group of coronavirus deniers and anti-vaccination protesters stormed the headquarters of the Slovenian public broadcaster last night, managing to get into the newsroom studio before the police intervened.

Ljubljana – Between 400 and 600 people are reported missing in Slovenia every year, a third of them are adolescents or children. Most are found within a day, while more than 90% of children are found within four hours, says Damjan Miklič, head of the Police Expert Network on Missing Persons.

Brussels – Slovenia does not support opening humanitarian corridors, said Interior Minister Aleš Hojs while in Brussels on Tuesday, adding no one wanted a repeat of the 2015 migration crisis. He considers Luxembourgian Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn’s statements criticising Slovenia’s stance on helping Afghanistan inappropriate.

Ljubljana – Interior Minister Aleš Hojs met via videolink on Wednesday Roland Sebastian Schilling, representative of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for Central Europe. The pair discussed the situation in Afghanistan, including potential migration and security threats, the ministry said.

Brussels – The Slovenian EU presidency strongly supports and expresses solidarity with the EU countries which have come under pressure from illegal migrants from Belarus, Slovenian Interior Minister Aleš Hojs said as he was en route to host a session of EU home affairs ministers to discuss a recent migrant influx from Belarus on Wednesday.

Ljubljana – Police Commissioner Anton Olaj has ordered supervision of the work of the Ljubljana Police Administration in policing Friday’s alternative celebration of Statehood Day by anti-government protesters in Ljubljana’s Prešeren Square. He has said that there is suspicion as to whether all protesters were treated the same.

Ljubljana – Tomaž Vesel, the president of the Court of Audit, is seeking support among independent oversight bodies for a statement that urges against alleged political pressure and attacks on them that are carried out in the media and on social networks. Some government ministers have reacted to the statement, largely not sharing the view.
