Police out in force for 10th anniversary of teen killing

Thousands of police officers will be on the streets of the capital on Thursday to monitor rallies planned for downtown Athens to mark the 10th anniversary of the fatal shooting of teenager Alexis Grigoropoulos by a police officer.

Apart from some 5,000 officers in Athens, police will also be out in force in several other cities where similar rallies are planned.

More than 5,000 police officers have been assigned to monitor rallies planned for downtown Athens on Thursday to mark the 10th anniversary since the fatal police shooting of teenager Alexis Grigoropoulos.

Police will also be out in force in several other cities where similar rallies are planned.

Two Athens metro stations to close for Grigoropoulos rally

Police in Athens on Tuesday ordered the closure of two central metro stations amid concerns of violence at a rally marking the eighth anniversary since the police killing of teenager Alexis Grigoropoulos.

The Panepistimio metro station at Athens University will close at 3 p.m. and Syntagma at 4 p.m., and will not serve commuters until police give the all-clear.

Jailed anarchist Romanos and militant group members beat drum for riots

Jailed self-styled anarchist Nikos Romanos and six imprisoned members of the Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire urban guerrilla group have called for an escalation of "anarchist action" during May in response to a recent government crackdown on sit-ins at public buildings around Athens.
