Accused Istanbul gunman may face 40 life terms

The accused gunman in a 2017 nightclub attack in Istanbul which killed 39 people could face 40 aggravated life sentences.

A court in the Turkish metropolis Istanbul on Jan. 27 indicted Abdulkadir Masharipov, an Uzbek national, on charges of murder and being a member of an armed terrorist group, according to judicial sources.

Court accepts indictment on ISIL attack on Istanbul nightclub

An Istanbul court accepted an indictment on an Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) attack on a famous nightclub at the heart of Istanbul on May 17. 

The Istanbul 27th Heavy Penal Court accepted the indictment into the ISIL attack on the Reina nightclub in Ortaköy, which resulted in the deaths of 39 people, while wounded 79 others.
