TV Slovenija boss clashes with Mladina over latest editorial

Ljubljana – Uroš Urbanija, the director of the TV arm of RTV Slovenija, has decided to cancel the subscription for Mladina over an editorial that criticises staffing at the public broadcaster. The editor-in-chief of Mladina retorted that by attacking the weekly, Urbanija was trying to cover up what was going on at TV Slovenija.

TV Slovenija journalist appointed govt communications chief

Ljubljana – The government appointed journalist Petra Bezjak Cirman acting director of the Government Communications Office (UKOM) at a correspondence session on Thursday. A public call for applications for a full-fledged boss will be issued in two months, Prime Minister Rober Golob has said.

Ljubljana – RTV Slovenija journalists continued on Monday the strike they first staged on 23 May, ending the day with a rally protesting against political interference. The public broadcaster’s heads meanwhile ordered that news shows be radically short or cancelled today, a move the staff see as an attempt to undermine the strike.

Ljubljana – RTV Slovenija director general Andrej Grah Whatmough has urged the public broadcaster’s in-house trade unions to cancel the strike planned for Monday and sign the strike agreement he has offered them in a bid to prevent “irreparable damage to news programmes”. Ljubljana – Journalists at public broadcaster RTV Slovenija will go on strike on Monday after their 23 May strike and subsequent talks with the management brought no progress on their strike demands.

The strike will take place between 2pm and 11pm, and a rally will be held at 7pm in Republic Square, across the street from the National Assembly.

Calls mounting for resignations over yesterday’s TV election debate

Ljubljana – Calls for the resignation of the director general of public broadcaster RTV Slovenija and TV Slovenija editor-in-chief are mounting after Thursday’s election debate turned sour with several opposition leaders leaving after some of the participants accusing each other of past mistakes and after the host seemed to lost control of debate.
