Sergey Stanishev, Bulgarian socialists' leader, was set to become Prime Minister if his party came first in the European elections, high-profile party sources say.

NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen has assured that Bulgaria's partnership with the Alliance is mutually beneficial.

Speaking Friday during his visit to Bulgaria, Rasmussen claimed that NATO made Bulgaria stronger, while Bulgaria, in turn, made NATO stronger.

On Friday he will receive the Stara Planina Order by Bulgaria's President Rosen Plevneliev and will have a private meeting with him, said the President's press office. 

Bulgaria's Defense Minister Angel Naydenov has decided to impose penalties on nine of his ministry's personnel.

The move is related to the series of miscalculations on the expenses for the construction of a border fence between Bulgaria and Turkey, Dariknews.bg reports.

Bulgaria, Serbia improving military co-operation

BELGRADE - Serbia's outgoing Defence Minister Nebojsa Rodic and Bulgaria's Defence Minister Angel Naydenov stated at a meeting in Sofia on Monday that the bilateral relations are good, within which the cooperation in the area of defence takes an important place.
