Voices supporting the admission of Romania into the Schengen Area have been raised immediately after the country took the rotating EU presidency, reported schengenvisainfo.com

Prime Minister Viorica Dancila will present on Tuesday the priorities of the Romanian Presidency to the Council of the European Union, in Strasbourg, at the plenary session of the European Parliament, according to a press release issued on Sunday evening for AGERPRES.

Romania's presidency's priorities at European Union's Council and the assessment of the Austrian presidency's outcomes along with the rules of freezing EU funding to the member states that are meddling with the courts of law or take no measures against fraud and corruption, are included on the agenda of the first plenary session of the European Parliament due 14-

Bulgaria's national Ombudswoman Maya Manolova has sent a letter to the European Ombudsman Emily O'Reilly requesting assistance in connection with the controversial legislative amendments to the Mobility Package 1, also known as the Macron plan, which are considered as detrimental to Bulgarian road hauliers, the press office of the Ombudsman said on 11th of January, reports BNT. 

Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boyko Borissov spoke by telephone with EP President Antonio Tajani concerning the Mobility Package. He insisted that the voting be left to the next European Parliament, the government press office said on 11th of January, reports BNT.

Bucharest, Jan 10 /Agerpres/ - "In Romania I feel like at home," said, on Thursday evening, in Bucharest, the President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, at the inauguration ceremony of the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union at the Romanian Athenaeum.

President Klaus Iohannis will participate in the launching ceremony of Romania's Presidency at the Council of the European Union, to take place at the Romanian Athenaeum, the Presidential Administration announced on Thursday.

According to the agenda, the head of state will deliver a speech at this event.

Romania marks on Thursday its taking over the presidency of the Council of the European Union through a ceremony organised at the Romanian Athenaeum, to be attended by the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, the President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, and Romania's Prime Minister Viorica Dancila.

The President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, expressed condolences for the victims in Strasbourg. "I mourn about the victims of the Strasbourg attack," wrote Antonio Tajani in Twitter. ''We will not back down! We will defeat terrorism and those who want to attack our way of life. The European Parliament continues to work'', he said.

Romania wants to contribute to promoting the common European agenda, in a constructive and consensus spirit, President Klaus Iohannis said on Wednesday, during the Cotroceni Presidential Palace meeting with the delegation of the European Parliament (EP), led by EP head Antonio Tajani.
