AJC chief Harris sees Baltakos video as 'damning,' puts faith in PM to act

American Jewish Committee executive director David Harris has labelled as “damning” the video of former cabinet secretary Panayiotis Baltakos speaking to Golden Dawn spokesman Ilias Kasidiaris.

“What Mr. Baltakos did is an affront to Prime Minister Samaras and to the vast majority of the Greek people,” said Harris, according to the AJC’s website.

Coalition goes on offensive over Baltakos scandal but GD threatens more videos

Panayiotis Psomiadis launches new party ahead of Euro polls

Former Central Macedonia Governor Panayiotis Psomiadis on Thursday announced the creation of his own party, to run in the May 25 European Parliament elections.

At a news conference in Thessaloniki, Psomiadis unveiled the name of the new group, which will be called Patrida (Homeland), and said that he was glad to be leaving New Democracy.

A potential opportunity

The whole mess with Panayiotis Baltakos is, in a way, a first-class opportunity for Prime Minister Antonis Samaras – who has shouldered an extremely difficult mission – to draw a line and move forward with party and government officials who express the values of the pro-European middle class and who operate within the framework of the country’s institutions.

Such gloomy predictions were yesterday debunked in the most official of ways. Euro-exit scenarios are no longer on the cards and the usual doomsayers have mostly fallen silent.
