Jennifer Hudson wins top honor at 53rd NAACP Image Awards

Jennifer Hudson was named entertainer of the year at the 53rd annual NAACP Image Awards that highlighted works by entertainers and writers of color.

After Hudson accepted the award on Feb. 26' night, the singer-actor thanked the NAACP for inspiring ``little girls like me.'' She beat out Regina King, Lil Nas X, Megan Thee Stallion and Tiffany Haddish.

Jennifer Hudson says she is nervous and excited for people to see "Respect," her personal tribute to the late Aretha Franklin in which she was cast for the role by the Queen of Soul herself.

Franklin, who died in 2018 at age 76, handpicked Hudson, an Oscar winner for "Dreamgirls," to play her in the biographical movie that arrives in theaters on Aug. 13.

Marcus Miller to perform in Istanbul once again

The Istanbul Jazz Festival will bring American bass genius Marcus Miller to his fans in Istanbul once again, while preparing for its 25th year. 

A regular guest at the Istanbul Jazz Festival, bass genius Miller, who is well-known for his impressive technique and brilliant albums, will take the stage on Oct. 21 at Zorlu PSM as part of a tour with talented young musicians. 

Marcus Belgrave dies, aged 78

American-born Jazz trumpet player Marcus Belgrave passed away on Sunday, aged 78 of heart failure.

 

His legendary career included playing with huge names of jazz like Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Joe Cocker, Dizzy Gillespie, Max Roach and Charles Mingues. Mingus had even told people, back in 1975 that “If I had Marcus Belgrave, my band would be the best”.

 

Sam Smith, The Star of Grammy's 2015

Sam Smith stormed the 57th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles last night. The British artist was the big winner at the ceremony, taking home four awards - Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Album.

"Thank you so much for breaking my heart because you got me four Grammys," Smith said, quoted by the BBC.
