Surgeon of century saves ‘unrecoverable’ leg

Prof. Dr. Afksendiyos Kalangos, whose name is among the "heart surgeons of the century," managed to save Merve's leg, which has been said to be "unrecoverable."

Merve Ay, 23, who lives in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır, struggled for 12 years with a vascular tumor that was detected in the heel of her left foot when she was only 8 years old.

President Erdoğan arrives in Angola, begins diplomacy tour in Africa

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan arrived on Oct. 17 in Angola's capital Luanda, the first leg of his mini-tour of three African countries, also including Nigeria and Togo.

Erdoğan was welcomed by Angola's Foreign Minister Tete Antonio and Alp Ay, Turkey's ambassador to the Southern African nation, at Quatro de Fevereiro International Airport.

Turkey marks Children's Day, improvements needed

Children's rights in Turkey have not been improving over the years, with many continuing to lack education, a new report has said amid the marking of Universal Children's Day on Nov. 20.  

Nov. 20 has been celebrated as Universal Children's Day since the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989, which was signed by Turkey in 1990 and enacted in 1995.
