Kosovo Court Reopens Sensitive Murder Trial Following BIRN Findings
The Basic Court at Peje/Pec in Kosovo has ordered the reopening of the trial for the murder of a 29-year-old following a series of dramatic developments in recent days that caught public attention.
"The main trial is reopened," Presiding Judge Violeta Husaj Rugova declared on Friday, explaining that further completion of "the criminal proceedings" was now necessary.
Hague Prosecutors Summon Former Kosovo Guerrilla Commander
A lawyer representing Azem Syla said on Monday evening that the former senior Kosovo Liberation Army officer has been invited for questioning by the Kosovo Specialist Prosecution in The Hague, which is investigating alleged violations by KLA fighters during and just after the 1998-99 war.
Kosovo Appeals Court Orders Retrial for Kelmendi's Case
The case of Naser Kelmendi, who was found guilty of running a narcotics operation and was jailed for six years in February, has been sent for a retrial by Kosovo Appeals Court on Thursday, his lawyer Besnik Berisha told BIRN.
Kelmendi will be released while he awaits retrial.

A court in Pristina on Monday released the former Democratic Party of Kosovo MP and former Kosovo Liberation Army commander Azem Syla, who is accused of organised crime and money laundering and has been in custody since 2016.

Hackers Force Kosovo PM to Close Facebook
Kosovo's Prime Minister, Isa Mustafa, has decided to close his Facebook account to new posts until fresh security measures are set up - after it was hacked numerous times.
The decision came after several postings appeared over the weekend, some using abusive words.

Kosovo Doctors Suspected of Health Scam
Kosovo police detained nine doctors and three other health officials on Thursday, suspected of abusing their positions to send business to private hospitals in return for cash.
They are suspected of signing deals with private hospitals to send patients for treatment there when public hospitals had the capacity to do the same treatments for free.
