Vipava – President Borut Pahor assured his Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vučić on Monday of Slovenia’s continued support for the European perspective of the Western Balkans. At the start of Vučić’s working visit to Slovenia, Pahor said that in order to ensure peace and stability, leaders in the region must be careful not to escalate the situation.

Ljubljana – President Borut Pahor discussed Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the importance of Ukraine-Russia negotiations hosted by Turkey in Tuesday’s telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The presidents also reaffirmed the good and friendly bilateral relations, the president’s office announced.

Ljubljana – President Borut Pahor talked with his Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vučić on the phone on Monday, congratulating him on his re-election as president in Sunday’s election.

In a press release reporting on the phone call, Pahor’s office said the pair of presidents had a friendly and fairly long conversation.

Ljubljana – President Borut Pahor pledged full support to Moldova in its efforts to help Ukrainian refugees as he spoke to President Maia Sandu on the phone on Monday. Slovenia will examine ways to help Moldova, he said, expressing Slovenia’s support for Moldova’s European perspective.

Ljubljana – President Borut Pahor has welcomed the announcement by Kyiv that Ukraine and Russia will hold talks at Ukraine’s border with Belarus, without preconditions. “We wish that step by step, they resolve the dispute in a peaceful manner,” he wrote on Twitter.

Ljubljana – Commenting on President Borut Pahor’s formal apology to the erased, the newspaper Dnevnik says on Saturday, on the 30th anniversary of the erasure, that this comes after state officials wanted to further erase those 25,671 people to silence them. It is ironic it was Pahor who apologised, the paper points out.

Slovenian President Borut Pahor on Friday will commemorate the 30th anniversary of what is known as the 'erasure', when Slovenia, after declaring independence from Yugoslavia and changing its legislation, deleted the residence permits of 25,671 citizens of former Yugoslav countries without prior warning on February 26, 1992.

Ljubljana – Slovenia’s officials strongly condemned Russia’s recognition of the separatist regions of Donetsk and Luhansk in eastern Ukraine as independent entities. Prime Minister Janez Janša called for the EU to offer Ukraine the prospect of full membership. Slovenia is also ready to support the country’s membership of the EU.

Munich – President Borut Pahor took part in a panel debate on the Western Balkans at the Munich Security Conference on Sunday, arguing the EU enlargement process should be stepped up and offering the EU as the answer to all the issues troubling the region.
