Postponement of Euro 2020 ‘advantage for Turkey’

Turkish defender Merih Demiral believes that the delay of the 2020 European Championships due to the coronavirus pandemic is advantageous for the Turkish national team.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency at Turkey's pre-tournament training camp in Antalya, Juventus defender Demiral said that it was a different and very tiring season for him in Italy.

Burak Yılmaz nets hat trick as Turkey beats Netherlands

Veteran striker Burak Yılmaz scored a hat trick as Turkey stunned the Netherlands 4-2 on March 24 in the opening game of European World Cup qualifying.

Yılmaz, the 35-year-old Lille forward, struck twice before the break and again late in the second half to secure the win in the Group G opener just as the Netherlands was threatening a comeback.

Galatasaray wins to climb up in league standings

Defending Turkish Süper Lig champion Galatasaray has moved a step closer to the top spot in the standings with a 3-0 win over city neighbor Kasımpaşa in a Week 21 game.

Adem Büyük scored a double for the visiting side in the 22nd and 41st minutes in the game on Feb. 9.

Having won its fifth league game in a row, Galatasaray climbed up to the fifth spot with 39 points.

Fenerbahçe, Trabzonspor share the spoils

Fenerbahçe failed to clinch its first league win of the season as it was held to a 2-2 draw at home by Trabzonspor on Aug. 20.

Trabzonspor started the Spor Toto Super League second week match with a goal when striker Burak Yılmaz took advantage and scored after Juraj Kucka's chip over Fenerbahçe's defense in the fifth minute.

Defending champion Beşiktaş made a winning start to the new Spor Toto Super League season by beating Antalyaspor 2-0, while city rival Fenerbahçe was held to a 2-2 draw at newcomer Göztepe over the weekend.
