Madama Butterfly | Athens | June 1, 4, 7 & 10

Starring Cellia Costea, Alisa Kolosova, Diamanti Kritsotaki and Andrea Care, Puccini's popular masterpiece "Madama Butterfly" is being brought to the Herod Atticus Theater this summer by the Greek National Opera (nationalopera.gr). The ambitious production is directed by the Avignon Festival's Olivier Py and conducted by Vassilis Christopoulos. Ticket prices range from 25 to 100 euros. 

Internationally-acclaimed musicians to perform in royal charitable concert

The Royal Charitable Concert, one of the longest living and most successful fundraising events in Romania, will bring to the stages the Romanian Athenaeum on October 25, soprano Cellia Costea, tenor Teodor Ilincai and the Romanian Youth Orchestra, conducted by Gabriel Bebeselea.

The Greek National Opera presents a revival by Rory Fazan of a Royal Opera House production of Giuseppe Verdi's "Simon Boccanegra," which was first staged in London on November 12, 1991. Directed by the legendary Elijah Moshinsky, that production was inspired by the art and architecture of Renaissance. Il trovatore | Athens | July 27

This is the last evening to enjoy the Greek National Opera's production of Giuseppe Verdi's ever-popular "Il trovatore" at the capital's Herod Atticus Theater. The four-act melodrama is presented in an impressive production, with top-flight performers in the main roles, such as Walter Fraccaro, Cellia Costea, Jelena Manistina, Dimitris Platanias and Dimitris Tiliakos.
