While the trade ties between the U.K. and Turkey continue at full speed, the landmark free trade agreement is planned to be renegotiated to include more sectors in the next two years.

The U.K. officially quit the EU after 47 years of membership on Jan. 31, 2020, as the 27 members of the bloc approved the Brexit deal on Nov. 25, 2018.

U.K. companies are looking at Turkey as an alternative production base to Southeast Asia and have launched inquiries into the matter, the head of the British Chamber of Commerce in Turkey said on Oct 28.

The U.K. wants to protect and increase its trade volume with Turkey, the British Chamber of Commerce in Turkey (BCCT) Chairman Chris Gaunt told Anadolu Agency on Oct. 8.

The British Chamber of Commerce in Turkey (BCCT) has said the collaborative business potential of Turkish and British companies are growing as big international brands position Turkey as their regional hub, in its annual assessment report revealed on Dec. 24. 

Already bridging economic relations between Turkey and the United Kingdom for more than 100 years, the activities of the British Chamber of Commerce in Turkey (BCCT) have been gaining further momentum over the past two years, the BCCT said in a written statement on July 7.
