Bill on same-sex marriage to be tabled ‘in time’ says government spokesman

A bill to legalize same-sex marriage will be presented in Parliament "in time," government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis said on Tuesday. 

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis had announced last July that he plans to legalize them during his second term in government, without specifying when. 

Bartholomew, Ieronymos exchange wishes for new year

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and the head of the Greek Orthodox Church, Archbishop Ieronymos, exchanged wished for the new year, state-run news agency AMNA reported on Tuesday.

Ieronymos called Bartholomew on New Year's Eve with both leaders expressing hope that the much-desired peace would prevail in the war-torn and conflict-ridden world in 2024. 

Archbishop Ieronymos labels homosexuality as a ‘deviation’

The leader of the Greek Orthodox Church, Archbishop Ieronymos, has described homosexuality as a "deviation." 

During a visit to Argolida in southern Greece on Wednesday, Ieronymos said, "The Church has its beliefs… Those who are in the Church and believe have a way of life. Whatever is outside this thing is a diversion from life," he said.

In a statement after the meeting in the Moscow Patriarchate, the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church stated that it could not, from now on, mention the name of Patriarch Theodore II in his prayers and participate in common prayers.
