Would the referendum for abolishing the monarchy had been held if Constantine had returned to Greece before Konstantinos Karamanlis after the fall of the junta? And if it had, would the king have lost for certain? No one knows.

Ex-king’s funeral service to take place in Athens at noon on Monday

The funeral service for Greece's former King Constantine will be held at 12 noon on Monday at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens while his body will lie in the adjacent chapel of Agios Eleftherios from 6. a.m. to 10 a.m and will be open to members of the public to pay their respects.

The body of the former King will then be transferred to the royal tombs in Tatoi.

Constantine attended the elite Anavryta Classical Lyceum, Greece's first Western-style, boys-only boarding school, which was founded in 1940 and re-established for the 1949-50 academic year with the express purpose of ensuring that the heir to the Greek throne received a "proper" education.

Former king’s funeral to take place on Monday

The funeral service of Constantine, the former and last king of Greece, will take place on Monday at the Athens Metropolitan Cathedral according to a release on Wednesday. The former king will later be buried as a private citizen in Tatoi.

The time of the funerary service as well as the length of time the body will lie in state will be determined at a latter date.

Ex-king to be buried as a private citizen in Athens

Greece's former King Constantine II, who died on Tuesday night aged 82, will be buried privately at a former royal estate north of Athens, the Greek government said on Wednesday.

Deposed by military rulers and spurned by his subjects who voted to ditch the monarchy in 1974, Constantine II was the only son of King Paul and Queen Frederica of Greece.
