Founded on May 24, 1875 under the lead of Ion C. Bratianu (1875 - 1891), the National Liberal Party (PNL) is the oldest political party in Romania. In 1947 PNL stopped its activity as a result of the abolition of political pluralism by the communist regime.

Romania's Adina Valean Is the New EU Commissioner for Transport

Newly-elected European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has endorsed Romanian MEP Adina Valean for the position of commissioner for transport in her team, Romania's Insider reported.

On October 15, 2019, President Klaus Iohannis designated National Liberal Party (PNL) leader Ludovic Orban as prime minister. According to art. 103, para. 2 of the Constitution, within 10 days from the appointment, the prime minister-designate must draw up the list with the members of the Cabinet and the governing program and send them for debate to the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate.

Former Liberal head Antonescu's "probably last" speech to party

Crin Antonescu, the former chairman of the National Liberal Party (PNL), called the audience at a concert dedicated to the 140th anniversary of the party to defend the values they believed in and the Parliament; he mentioned it was probably the last time he was addressing "such a Liberal gathering."

Continued governing vital for PM Ponta, Social Democrats (former Liberal leader Antonescu)

Crin Antonescu, the former leader of the National Liberal Party (PNL), says PM Victor Ponta made an error in the presidential election runoff he lost, associating with individuals whom 'people do not want'.

Speaking in a TV broadcast on Tuesday night, Antonescu added that staying in power was nevertheless vital for Ponta and for his Social Democrat Party.
