The five Romanian troops of the 300th Sfantu Andrei Mechanised Infantry Battalion injured on Friday in Afghanistan are staff sergeant Marian Rusu, corporals class 2 Florin Anton and Florin-Alexandru Stefan, corporal class 3 Petrica Apetroaie and private Nicolae Petcu, according to a press statement released by the Romanian Defence Ministry (MApN).

Five soldiers of the 300th Sfantul Andrei Mechanised Infantry Battalion on a mission to Afghanistan were injured on Friday as they were conducting a joint patrol mission with US soldiers in their area of responsibility, Romania's Ministry of National Defence (MApN) reports in a press statement.

Romania will create maintenance centres for the Patriot surface-to-air missile systems, National Defence Minister Gabriel Les announced on Thursday. According to him, the creation of the maintenance centres is part of the contract Romania concluded with the US partners, which also provides industrial cooperation regarding the missile system.

Romania will associate with the Italian firearms producer Beretta in view of manufacturing, at the Mechanic Plant in Plopeni of Prahova County, two types of weapons, Economy Minister Nicolae Badalau announced on Thursday. According to him, the Romanian state and the Italian company will establish a new company, in which the Romanian side will own 80 percent of the shares.

US Army Europe troops will arrive from Poland at the end of this February together with military equipment at the Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base in Constanta County as part of the US engagement to secure NATO's eastern flank under Operation Atlantic Resolve, according to a press statement released by the Romanian Defence Ministry (MApN) on Wednesday.
