Health Minister Danijel Bešič Loredan resigned on 7 July after being asked to do so by Prime Minister Robert Golob, who said the two had conceptual differences regarding the development of the Slovenian healthcare system.

Mistaken identity at hospital leads to family burying stranger
Celje/Ljubljana – A case of mistaken identity at Celje hospital has led to a family mourning and burying a stranger and the hospital management offering their resignation. Health Minister Danijel Bešič Loredan said that he too would resign if PM Robert Golob found he was also responsible. Golob said the minister was doing a great job.
Long Covid treatment available next year
Ljubljana – Treatments for long-term effects of coronavirus will be rolled out next year under the Health Ministry’s guidelines for services at primary health care level. The work of experts from various fields will be funded by the public insurance fund ZZZS, Minister Danijel Bešič Loredan said.

Minister says head of UKC Ljubljana hospital should step down
Ljubljana – The management of the UKC Ljubljana medical centre no longer enjoys the support of the Health Ministry, Minister Danijel Bešič Loredan told the press on Tuesday. He said Jože Golobič, director general of Slovenia’s main hospital, should resign immediately and take responsibility for poor business results and numerous missed deadlines.
Fresh data on healthcare waiting times expected in a month
Ljubljana – For the past two months the Health Ministry has been analysing health care services in 2020 and 2021. Long waiting times have been confirmed as the bane of Slovenia’s healthcare with Minister Danijel Bešič Loredan warning about many errors in the IT system. They now aim to obtain up-to-date data in a month.
Bill passed to reduce wait times in healthcare
Ljubljana – The National Assembly has passed an emergency bill designed to tackle long wait times for health services by securing more money and prepare the system for a more sweeping reform that is to follow. The bill exposed a fault-line between the Left and the rest of the ruling coalition as the former is worried the law could undermine public healthcare.

Chamber of Nursing and Midwifery surprised by minister’s statement
Ljubljana – The Chamber of Nursing and Midwifery said on Monday it was surprised by Health Minister Danijel Bešič Loredan’s claim in a recent interview that there are no medical staff shortages in Slovenia. The chamber said its data showed health institutions were understaffed and overburdened.
