A Special Court in Belgrade has placed an alleged drugs baron who surrendered to the authorities on Monday after more than four years on the run in custody for 60 days.
BELGRADE - Serbia's Justice Minister Nikola Selakovic said on Wednesday, commenting on the arrest of drug lord Darko Saric, that there was basis to suspect there had been contacts between government officials and criminal organizations.
The most important thing is that Saric is in the hands of the authorities and that he will appear before court on Monday, he told TV Pink.
BELGRADE - Prosecutor for Organized Crime Miljko Radisavljevic said on Wednesday Darko Saric's next appearance before the Special Court will be on March 24, when he will enter his plea.
It is evident that Saric will be interrogated as a witness in a preliminary investigation concerning unauthorized release of classified information, Radisavljevic told Radio and Television of Serbia.
U.S. congratulates Serbian government on Saric arrest
BELGRADE - The United States congratulated on Tuesday the governments of Serbia and Montenegro on the apprehension of long-time fugitive Darko Saric, adding that the U.S. will continue to work with Serbian authorities on combating organized crime and corruption.
BELGRADE- Director of the Security Information Agency (BIA) Aleksandar Djordjevic said on Tuesday that Serbia's First Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, who also heads the Security Agency Coordination Bureau, was the only politician with all the information regarding the search for and the arrest of indicted drug lord Darko Saric.
