As the number of COVID-19 cases, deaths, and intubations gradually rise, authorities and experts are turning their attention to northern Greece, where an exceptionally low vaccination rate and a high number of cases has placed Thessaloniki and the broader region into the high-risk red zone.

Greek President to meet new Archbishop of America Elpidophoros
Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos is on Tuesday morning to meet with the new Archbishop of America Elpidophoros.
Elpidophoros was selected earlier this month to replace Demetrios who resigned at the beginning of May.
The decision was taken by the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Istanbul.

Elpidophoros selected new archbishop of America
Metropolitan of Bursa Elpidophoros has been selected as the new archbishop of America to replace Demetrios who stepped down earlier this month. The decision was taken by the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Istanbul.
Elpidophoros, 52, was born in Istanbul in 1967 and from August of 2011 had served as the abbot of the Monastery of Holy Trinity in Halki.

Elpidoforos selected new archbishop of America

PM Tsipras meets Archbishop Demetrios of America in New York
Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras in a meeting with Archbishop Demetrios of America noted the importance of the role of the Archdiocese for the Diaspora in the United States.
The two men discussed about the reconstruction of the historic Greek-Orthodox Saint Nicholas Church which was destroyed at the 9/11 terrorist attacks, as a symbolic project of hope for a more peaceful world.
