Parl't speaker, deputies convene to discuss judicial appointments

The Parliament speaker and his deputies convened for a second day on Friday in an ongoing bid to appoint the country's new judicial leadership.

The choice of Supreme Court President is to be made from six current vice presidents: Angeliki Aliferopoulou, Giorgos Lekkas, Pinelope Zontanou, Iosif Tsalaganidis, Irini Kalou and Dimitra Kokotini.

A Supreme Court official who has challenged the handling of an investigation into claims that several high-ranking opposition politicians had taken bribes from a Swiss pharmaceutical firm, has requested that his testimony before colleagues be postponed until after Greece's general elections on July 7.

Prosecutor to testify next week over claims gov't official influenced Novartis probe

Supreme Court deputy prosecutor Ioannis Angelis, who has claimed that the leftist government influenced an investigation into an alleged bribery scandal involving the Swiss drugs manufacturer Novartis, is to be summoned next Friday by another Supreme Court deputy prosecutor, Dimitris Dasoulas, who has been appointed by the court's main prosecutor Xeni Dimitriou to probe his claims.
