Acropolis Museum president, ‘driving force’ prof. Pantermalis passes away

The president of the board of the Acropolis Museum, archaeology professor Dimitris Pantermalis, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 82.

Prof. Pantermalis was considered as a major protagonist in achieving the construction and subsequent operation of the state-of-the-art museum, which is located off the southern slope of the Acropolis in central Athens.

Museums nationwide reopen on Monday

Museums across the country will reopen on Monday after a three-month shutdown imposed by health authorities to halt the spread of the coronavirus.

A two-meter indoors and a 1.5-meter outdoors distance among all visitors will be observed for visitors alongside the mandatory use of protective face masks. The maximum number of for tour groups will be eight people.

As the Acropolis Museum celebrates its 10-year anniversary, its president, Professor Dimitris Pantermalis. said the main focus has been to maximize the experience of visitors.

"It is a great pleasure for the Acropolis Museum to celebrate its tenth birthday," he said in an interview with state-run news agency ANA-MPA.

Acropolis Museum marks ninth birthday

The Acropolis Museum in Athens celebrated its ninth birthday on Wednesday with a jazz music concert in its courtyard and a free tour of the temporary exhibition, "Eleusis: The Great Mysteries."

More than 1.5 million people visited the museum in 2017, while the number of English-speaking visitors surpassed Greeks.
