Minister of Digital Governance Dimitris Papastergiou on Friday expounded on all the possibilities that low-orbit satellites offer. 

"When there are floods, fires, various urban planning issues, the solution comes from above," he said, speaking at the Delphi Economic Forum. 

After police officer’s death, Greek soccer fans will need a state-issued QR code to attend games

Greek authorities launched a ban on paper tickets for all league soccer matches on Tuesday as part of an effort to crack down on the violence that has plagued the sport for decades.

Under new rules, fans will only be allowed into stadiums using their cellphones and displaying a government-issued QR code so they can be identified and attendance bans can be enforced.

Request for VAR renewal

Greek soccer authorities have requested a meeting with Digital Governance Minister Dimitris Papastergiou and Deputy Sports Minister Yiannis Vroutsis for the renewal of the contract for video assistant referee (VAR) technology, the officiating system assisting on-field referees in a soccer match, which expires in September.

Digital infrastructure cooperation with UAE

Greece and the United Arab Emirates signed a memorandum of collaboration in Abu Dhabi on Thursday for the promotion of investments in digital infrastructure in Greece.

Signing the memorandum were Greek Digital Governance Minister Dimitris Papastergiou and UAE Investments Minister and CEO of ADQ Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi.

Civil service digital assistant available in 25 languages

The launch of an enhanced version of the digital assistant, mAigov, catering to European Union citizens and Greek expatriates in 25 languages was announced on Thursday. 

Available through gov.gr, the multilingual chat assistant supports 24 certified EU languages and Albanian, and is accessible via mobile phones, tablets, or desktops/laptops, accepting both text and voice queries. 

Cabinet to discuss same-sex marriage bill on Wednesday

Draft laws on same-sex marriage and on reforming the court system will be on the agenda for discussion by the cabinet on Wednesday. 

State Minister Akis Skertsos is set to present the bill on marriage equality while Justice Minister Giorgos Floridis and Deputy Minister Yiannis Bougas will present a bill on judicial reforms.
